QUALITATIVE STUDENT REVIEWS

as Instructor

"Dianna was great and gave a lot of useful feedback on assignments and presentations and was very good at instructions and she was all around wonderful. This lab was a lot more helpful than I imagined it would be, and other labs I've been to. Every activity demonstrated a key concept in class, and it was neat to see them happen physically. Many of the lab's experiments were not highly technical, which sometimes made it frustrating to come to lab for something I could have done at home, but they were helpful experiments and feedback on them was helpful, so overall it was definitely worth having. I also enjoyed the allowance for independent group work."

"[Dianna] was great. She explained things to students effectively and was always ready for class."

"[Dianna] was always helpful in lab and was excellent at thinking on her feet in situations where she hadn’t necessarily prepared for a sudden tech problem or question. She was very patient when people ran into problems, but was also excellent at keeping the class as a whole moving instead of getting bogged down helping a single group. I felt like her grading could be a little harsh, especially considering that we only had 50 minutes of lab time where we could get assistance, but overall it was fair. Her exam prep sessions were very well constructed and well aimed at the material we needed to study. Definitely one of my favorite [instructors] I’ve had!"

"I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Dianna! She did her best to make herself available to help us and was incredibly receptive to any questions we had. She did a great job helping us to understand difficult concepts, and was always helpful during the lab sessions. I definitely feel like she really cared about helping us all learn and enjoy the material, even when it was really hard. She was really tough on the lab grading, but I'm kind of glad she was. It made me work harder and learn the material better so I would do better overall. The lab section was really helpful in reinforcing and visualizing the concepts we learned in lecture. It was really hard, but if you really put in the work then you learned a lot. I really liked that she was always willing to help us and answer our questions, and didn't make us feel stupid for any of our questions. She was always very nice."

"[Dianna] was very fun and explained concepts that I was confused on. She made sure we understood how the lab and class connected. The class confirmed everything that I was learning in the class and I better understood things. I enjoyed this lab and the TA. The projects that we did were especially fun."

"[Dianna] was a great instructor. She was very friendly and knew her material well. Labs went by easily and quickly, and helped me to better understand the course."

"Helpful, easy-going professor who always taught everything needed to complete the course."

Student, Introduction to Weather & Climate Lab

"Dianna is an excellent instructor and is passionate about the subject of meteorology. Dianna is not too far removed from the students and understands how students learn and what methods will work best in communicating course material with great efficacy. This course was a great mixture of refining old, previously learned material, assimilating new material, and invoking critical thinking to introduce new material and to prepare for the future. [Dianna] began lab sessions by ensuring that all students were attentive and engaged in the class session. Once she ensured that everyone was present and had their undivided attention, she posed questions following up to material learned in the lecture. Dianna set a great example of what a successful student-teacher should be. She was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable."

"Dianna was wonderful during the lab period. She thoroughly explained each assignment as
well as gave useful feedback on what needed to be corrected on the lab. Dianna was very open to helping whenever needed. She was encouraging and gave me more materials to help me understand different topics. Dianna was absolutely awesome in dynamics and was able to make information easier to understand. I don't think some of the labs [need] to be a group assignment. It was hard for me to understand some material because my group members were understanding it faster than how I was understanding it which was not beneficial to me."

Student, Atmospheric Dynamics II

"It was obvious that [Dianna] enjoyed the material that she was talking about and she was always helpful when someone had a question. The lab gave me a chance to use the stuff we talked about in our lecture. The practice was useful when it was time to take the test."

Student, Introduction to Weather & Climate Lab

"[Dianna did] very well with the lab section of this course. Homework was graded and returned in a timely manner. The course was a good learning tool for the meteorology core."

Student, Atmospheric Dynamics I

"[Dianna was] very helpful with course material by completely explaining practice problems we had to do during lab.  This problem session was a huge help for applying the course material to specific problems."

Student, Atmospheric Dynamics I

"Dianna is incredibly helpful, always willing to come over and assist the student in working out
a problem. Whether something related to the lab, class, or probably even their own life outside the classroom! She gathered the class' attention and managed to put all of our focus into one direction. I love her style and confidence. It made me consider graduate school! Labs were challenging but helped to apply what we were learning in class to a more realistic, problem solving type of environment. Dianna played into that with her extensive knowledge and eager to help demeanor."

Student, Atmospheric Dynamics II

"Dianna was a very effective teacher and gave great feedback on labs. I love the personalized breakdown on each lab, letting you know exactly what you got wrong. Dianna was always there when I needed help; she was always enthusiastic and I was never afraid to go to her when needed. Her enthusiasm made lab fun."

Student, Atmospheric Dynamics II

"[Dianna was] very helpful when labs were unclear in terms of expectations and in the event of failures in IDV. I felt like she wanted us to do well on the labs even when they were difficult. Learned so much more in this course than in Dynamics I because it was taught in a way that I respond to. She understood that topics were confusing and didn't make us feel bad about not knowing
something, and would try to explain it in her own words."
